CHM 1005 Survey of Organic & Biochemistry

This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed for Allied Health, Agriculture, and other related majors. It covers the fundamentals of Organic Chemistry with emphasis on nomenclature, isomerism, properties and reactions of different classes of organic compounds such as alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, arenes, alkyl halides, alcohols/thiols, aldehydes & ketones, amines, carboxylic acids and derivatives. In addition, the course provides an overview of biochemical topics such as amino acids, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, enzymes, vitamins, generation of biochemical energy, nucleic acids and proteins. Three lecture hours per week; three lab hours per week.
