Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certificate

What Follows is the Program Outline.

This program is not designed for students transferring to other colleges or universities. As a rule, courses with a second digit "0" are designed to transfer. Students planning to transfer should consult a Counselor to verify the transferability of courses. Prerequisites for courses are noted in the IVCC Catalog. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) curriculum consists of 1 course which includes an online lecture, 25 hours of laboratory practice, and 40 hours of clinical experience in long-term care facility. The CNA Program is approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). Attendance in all laboratory and clinical sessions is mandatory, and strictly enforced in accordance with IDPH regulations, At the end of this course, a minimum grade of C is required to register for the State Competency exam necessary for certification. The program is completed in 8 weeks. A student must be active on the Illinois Health Care Worker Registry to be considered for admission to the RN and/or Practical Nursing Program at IVCC.

PLEASE NOTE: All students will be required to have a fingerprinting, criminal background check, and negative 10-panel drug screen completed prior to the first day of class. A misdemeanor or felony conviction may prevent you from becoming certified and/or working in a healthcare setting. A mandatory orientation session will be scheduled within 30 days prior to the start of class. During this session, students will begin the fingerprinting process and receive all required documents to complete their physical examination and drug screen. Orientation will also include an overview of the online portion of the course. Attendance at orientation is required. Students who fail to register for and attend one of the scheduled orientation sessions will be removed from the course.
